Ebook Description
Wanting
to parent for our children’s success and our mutual happiness is a
matter of being wise in heart skills. Over the recent years, the
parenting community has given many names to those skills like
nurturance, kindness, mindfulness, presence, intentional,
respectful, bonding, consciousness or emotional intelligence.
Based on research into the best practices of fifty years of
parenting, neuroscience and brain-based behaviors, as well as the
science of bonding and nurturance we can say that responsiveness and
structure help parents parent most effectively.
A heart-centered, responsive approach to parenting includes
boundaries and consequences and may be the optimal way to raise
children. Parents who partake in this approach also tend to embrace
the neuroscience that has shown that children’s learning styles are
varied, yet predictable. As a result, these parents no longer
believe that their children must fit inside a box, but instead
choose to become educated as to what responses enable their children
to regulate and better manage their own emotions and lives in
general.
In the 21st century, discipline in parenting is an instructive
process. In fact, it parallels training in many respects. It’s
instructive to help children acquire the information that they need
to develop and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships. When we
think about behavioral situations as opportunities to teach, instead
of frustrations and problems, we end up fulfilling one of the
purposes of discipline: to be creative and to think of solutions,
rather than just trying to apply ready-made ones.
